Take a quick look under your Toyota and you won't find anything to protect the most vulnerable and expensive parts of your truck. The picture to the left shows how unprotected the transfer case really is. (Okay, okay the picture shows a Tundra, but your Tacoma isn't any better!) Apparently, Toyota didn't really think you'd be running real trails with your Tacoma or 4Runner.     We know you're gonna play hard!! These skid plates are made of 3/16" thick steel and powder-coated semi-gloss black for a durable and attractive finish. They mount solidly to the truck's frame and are specially designed for easy bolt-up installation with minimal drilling. Unfortunately, since the chassis is fully boxed, the transfer case skid plate requires the drilling of four holes for self-tapping bolts. Just like our other skids these skid plates will help you get over obstacles by preventing your chassis cross-members from catching on whatever you're driving over. So you not only get added protection and peace of mind, your Toyota will be more capable as well!! Transfer Case Skid Plate, 1995-2004 Tacoma and 1996-2002 4Runner TA-0001: $216.00 This picture shows the skid plate's shape and you can easily see the oil drain hole that allows you to perform maintenance without removing the skid plate. And both sides have that cool logo cut into them. This picture shows just how little ground clearance is lost with the installation of this skid plate. You've gained a lot of protection without losing any more than the thickness of the material in ground clearance where you need it most...in the middle. This picture shows just how much protection you've gained for your transfer case. This is a MAJOR improvement over the stock tin part that Toyota calls a skid plate. It's a bit tough to see, but we've used carriage bolts to attach the skid plate to the transmission cross-member.
